Interested but Uncertain: Carbon Markets and Data Sharing among U.S. Crop Farmers

The potential for farmers and agriculture to sequester carbon contribute global climate change goals is widely discussed. However, there currently low participation in agricultural markets a limited understanding of farmer perceptions willingness participate. Furthermore, farmers’ concerns regarding data privacy may complicate markets, which necessitates sharing with multiple entities. This study aims address research gaps by assessing participate identifying the determinants participation, exploring how relate markets. Data were collected through multistate survey 246 analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, multinomial regression models. We find that majority (71.8%) are aware would like sell credits, but they express high uncertainty about market information, policies, cost impacts. Just over half indicated share their education, developing tools models, improving supply chains. Farmers who wanted more likely have higher farm revenues, overall, private organizations, farming practices had positive impact on profitability. In conclusion, general interest information needed uncertainties concerns.
